Afghan, Pakistani negotiators in Doha for peace talks after fierce clashes

SUMMARY

Afghanistan and Pakistan will hold peace talks in Doha on Saturday after extending a ceasefire following recent clashes. The fighting resulted in numerous casualties, marking the worst violence since the Taliban took power in 2021.

Afghan Defence Minister Mullah Muhammad Yaqoob is leading the discussions, aimed at addressing cross-border terrorism and restoring peace. Tensions escalated after Pakistan accused Afghanistan of harboring militants responsible for increased attacks.

A recent suicide attack near the border left seven Pakistani soldiers dead. The Pakistani military called for action against terrorist groups, while Afghanistan condemned recent airstrikes by Pakistan. Following these strikes, Afghanistan's cricket team canceled a tournament planned in Pakistan.
