'she lacks support'

Nobel winner Machado left out of Trump's post-Maduro Venezuela plan for now

SUMMARY

President Trump has opted not to work with María Corina Machado, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner, on Venezuela's political transition, citing her lack of domestic support.

Instead, he aims to collaborate with Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. Rodríguez rejected Trump's plans, insisting Nicolás Maduro is still Venezuela’s president.

Opposition leaders are saddened, although some hope for Machado's eventual inclusion in U.S. strategies. Trump’s advisers seem to favor a smoother transition by negotiating with current regime members over transitioning to Machado's leadership.

Machado emphasized readiness to assume power following the 2024 elections, advocating for an economic overhaul. Trump's plans include substantial investments in Venezuela’s oil sector.
