Most federal proceedings in Germany are against Islamism and foreign extremism
Recent investigations by the Federal Prosecutor General reveal that 99 percent of proceedings involve Islamist or foreign-related extremism, contrary to claims from some politicians about right-wing extremism being the primary threat.
Between January and June 2025, 146 investigations were opened, with 144 tied to migration issues. Notably, 84 were related to Islamist terrorism, and 60 to foreign extremism, while only two were for right-wing extremism. Most of the perpetrators come from Syria, Iraq, or Afghanistan.
AfD politician Martin Hess argues this reflects a misprioritization, stating, "Imported terrorism and imported extremism continue to pose by far the greatest threat to our internal security." He advocates for a shift in focus towards addressing Islamist extremism more decisively.
