Meta won't sign EU's AI code of practice agreement, calling it an overreach
SUMMARY
Meta Platforms declined to sign the European Union's artificial intelligence code of practice, citing it as an "overreach" that could "stunt" companies. Joel Kaplan, Meta's global affairs chief, expressed concerns about legal uncertainties for model developers and measures exceeding the scope of the AI Act.
“Europe is heading down the wrong path on AI.”
The EU's code, effective next month, aims to enhance transparency and safety in AI. Other companies, including ASML and Airbus, have also raised objections, while OpenAI has committed to signing the code. Kaplan emphasized the potential negative impact on AI development in Europe.
