China plans to build a naval 'Great Wall' to fend off thousand-drone swarm attack

China's naval researchers are developing a "Great Wall" defense system to protect warships from drone swarm attacks. The proposed multilayered architecture will use AI sensors, satellites, and advanced weapons such as hypersonic missiles, lasers, and microwaves.

Experts warn that low-cost drone swarms may overwhelm traditional defenses with their speed and coordination. The defense strategy includes countermeasures displayed during a recent military parade, showcasing new technologies intended to disrupt and destroy approaching drones.

"“It could be a pure coincidence, but [the parade] brings the idea from paper to life,” said a Beijing-based defense expert.
