Every baby in the UK to receive DNA testing

Every baby in the UK will undergo DNA testing as part of a new 10-year NHS plan. This initiative aims to use whole-genome sequencing to screen for numerous diseases, allowing for earlier intervention. Health Secretary Wes Streeting stated, "The revolution in medical science means that we can transform the NHS over the coming decade."

The plan focuses on prevention rather than treatment, with £650 million dedicated to genomics research. The government hopes to leverage technologies like AI to predict illnesses and enhance personalized healthcare.

Funding for the NHS is expected to increase by £29 billion annually over three years to support these changes.
