John Ternus to become Apple CEO

Tim Cook will transition to executive chairman of Apple’s board on September 1, 2026, while John Ternus will become CEO. This move follows a unanimous decision by the Board of Directors after a long succession planning process.

Cook will aid in Ternus's transition and continue to engage with global policymakers. Cook praised Ternus, stating, "He is without question the right person to lead Apple into the future."

Ternus, who joined Apple in 2001, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. Arthur Levinson will become lead independent director on the same date.

Under Cook, Apple's market cap grew from $350 billion to $4 trillion, with significant enhancements in product lines and sustainability efforts. Ternus’s innovations have improved reliability and reduced environmental impact.
