French leader Le Pen able to run in next presidential election after court ruling

Marine Le Pen, the far-right French leader, can run in the 2027 presidential election despite a court ruling that found her guilty of misappropriating public funds. A Paris appeals court determined she misused EU funds and imposed a 45-month ban from public office, which is suspended for 30 months.

Le Pen will wear an electronic tag to track her movements during the election campaign. Her ability to run had been uncertain since March 2025, when she was banned from public office for embezzling over €4 million from the European Parliament.

She left the courtroom without making a statement.
