Airlines sell flight data and financial details to DHS without informing passengers

Airlines, including Delta and American Airlines, have sold detailed flight data and financial details of U.S. travelers to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) through a data broker, the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) which is owned by the country’s major airlines.

This data includes passenger names, itineraries, and financial details.

Part of the contract prohibits CBP from revealing the source of the data , raising concerns among civil liberties advocates. CBP claims the data is necessary for tracking "people of interest."

This information reveals the extent of DHS's data purchases and raises questions about privacy and governmental transparency.
