Iran launches cloud-seeding operations to ease water crisis

SUMMARY

Iran has begun cloud-seeding operations to address a severe water crisis. The initiative commenced in the Lake Urmia drainage basin in northwest Iran. An aircraft is spraying clouds to induce rainfall as part of this effort. Mohammad Mehdi Javadian Zadeh, head of the Organization for Development and Use of Meteoric Water Technologies, noted these operations could expand to other regions.

Cloud seeding may also happen in Tehran if a suitable rain system is identified. Iran is facing significant drought, leading to water pressure reductions in major cities. The government has resources to continue these efforts until May but warns not to overstate their impact.
