Brazil's Lula vetoes law reducing Bolsonaro's sentence

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva vetoed a law that would have significantly reduced the prison sentence of former leader Jair Bolsonaro.

Bolsonaro was convicted of coup plotting and sentenced to 27 years in prison. The law, passed by Congress, aimed to cut his sentence to just over two years.

Lula made it clear he opposed this legislation. He highlighted the importance of January 8th, the date of riots by Bolsonaro supporters, as "the day of our democracy's victory."

Bolsonaro's conviction involved plans to prevent Lula from taking office, which prosecutors said failed due to a lack of military support.
