Second US Navy jet lost at sea from Truman aircraft carrier

Another F/A-18 Super Hornet from the USS Harry S. Truman has been lost in the Red Sea, marking the second jet to go down in over a week. An investigation is ongoing, but initial reports suggest an arrestment failure during landing, leading the pilot and weapons officer to eject safely with minor injuries. The jet, however, has not been recovered.

Separately, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels targeted the Truman amidst a ceasefire announcement by President Trump. US Navy assets have faced increased threats in the Red Sea since late 2023. The Truman carrier has faced multiple issues during its deployment, including a prior jet crash and a vessel collision earlier this year.
