New national law will turn large parking lots into solar power farms

SUMMARY

South Korea is mandating that parking lots with over 80 spaces install solar canopies. This law applies to both new and existing lots, promoting renewable energy and job creation. The canopies will protect vehicles from weather elements while helping to preserve EV battery range by reducing AC use.

Ministry officials believe this initiative will enhance energy distribution and public comfort. Approved in September, the law is set to go into effect soon.

Similar projects are emerging in the US, including a significant solar carport system in Arizona, which shows that the concept can be successful in other regions.
