New study finds entire spoonful of microplastics in people's brains
SUMMARY
A recent study found alarming levels of microplastics in human brains, with the average sample containing about seven grams.
Microplastics have increased by 50% over the last eight years, and the amount found in the brains of dementia patients was up to ten times higher than in healthy individuals.
Researchers caution that while correlations exist, more studies are needed to confirm direct links to health issues. The study identifies polyethylene as the most common microplastic detected and suggests that food and possibly air could be primary routes of exposure.
Experts recommend reducing single-use plastics and filtering water to lower exposure risks.
