January 6 pipe bomb suspect named

The FBI has arrested Brian Cole, 30, a north Virginia resident, suspected of planting pipe bombs near the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Cole is linked to anarchist ideologies, was reportedly on the FBI's radar for years prior, and was taken into custody after a review of evidence from 2021 and 2022.

His arrest follows a $500,000 reward offered by the FBI for tips and comes as a major breakthrough in a five-year investigation that has fueled conspiracy theories. The bombs were placed outside the Democratic and Republican National Committee headquarters and were found the next day, having not detonated.

The investigation involved tracking purchases of materials used in the bombs but initially yielded no credible leads.
