Two US Navy ships collide in waters near South America
SUMMARY
A collision occurred between the USS Truxtun, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, and the supply ship USNS Supply during a refueling operation in the Caribbean. Two individuals sustained minor injuries but are in stable condition. Both ships can continue sailing. The cause is under investigation.
The collision happened amid President Trump's naval buildup in the Caribbean to combat drug trafficking. Collisions involving Navy ships are rare but can be serious; previous incidents resulted in sailor deaths. The Navy investigated past collisions and found them avoidable due to crew failures.
