Sheinbaum says US extending trade deadline for Mexico

The U.S. is extending the deadline for a trade deal with Mexico, as President Claudia Sheinbaum announced. This extension allows more time to address non-tariff trade barriers discussed in recent talks.

Trump had planned to raise tariffs on certain Mexican goods but is revisiting this after positive negotiations with Sheinbaum. She stated the U.S. will give Mexico “a few more weeks” to amend trade policies to avoid a 30 percent tariff.

The White House wants Mexico to eliminate 54 non-tariff trade barriers. Following Sheinbaum's optimistic remarks, the peso strengthened, indicating market confidence in ongoing negotiations.
