Microsoft says Azure service affected by damaged Red Sea cables

SUMMARY

Microsoft announced that its Azure cloud clients may face latency issues due to multiple undersea cables in the Red Sea being cut. This affects traffic between the Middle East and Asia or Europe. The company is working to mitigate the situation but did not specify how the cables were damaged.

Microsoft stated, “Undersea fiber cuts can take time to repair," and they are monitoring and optimizing routes to lessen the impact.

Repairing the cables may be challenging due to ongoing attacks by Yemen’s Houthis on vessels in the region.
