Eurovision winner hands back trophy over Israel participation

SUMMARY

Swiss singer Nemo has announced he will return his 2024 Eurovision trophy in protest of Israel's participation in the contest. This decision follows a series of boycott announcements from various EU nations. Nemo, who won with the song "The Code," stated, “the trophy no longer belongs on my shelf.”

He criticized Eurovision for conflicting with its principles of unity and inclusion amid allegations of genocide against Israel. His protest comes after public broadcasters withdrew from Eurovision 2026 over Israel's continued involvement. The EBU maintains Israel is eligible to compete.
