Suspect arrested over Nord Stream attacks served in Ukraine's army

SUMMARY

Serhii K., a 49-year-old Ukrainian, was arrested in Italy for alleged involvement in the Nord Stream pipeline attacks. Previously, he served in Ukraine's Secret Service and the Army's special forces, Sky News has learned.

He was arrested under a European warrant issued by German prosecutors. Serhii was discovered in a hotel with his family, and no weapons were found at the scene. He arrived in Italy recently for a holiday and used his real identity to check into the hotel, triggering a police alert.

He faces serious charges in Germany for collusion to cause an explosion and sabotage. Serhii denies the accusations, claiming he was in Ukraine during the attacks. His extradition hearing is scheduled for September 3.
