Iran closes all diplomatic and indirect channels of communication with the US

SUMMARY

Iran has closed all diplomatic and indirect channels of communication with the United States and fully suspended the exchange of messages.

The complete severance follows President Donald Trump’s explicit threat that “a whole civilization will die tonight” unless Iran meets his Tuesday deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump posted on Truth Social: “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”

As the deadline approached, U.S. and Israeli strikes intensified across Iran. Targets included multiple railway and road bridges, an airport, a petrochemical plant, power transmission lines and areas near Kharg Island, the country’s main oil export terminal.

Iran rejected a proposal for a temporary ceasefire conveyed through intermediaries. Tehran now insists any lasting talks can begin only after the United States and Israel end all strikes, provide guarantees against future attacks, and offer compensation for damages. Iran also demands continued control of the strait and the right to impose fees on passing ships.

The Revolutionary Guards declared they will no longer exercise restraint toward infrastructure in Gulf states allied with the United States. They warned that retaliation would “deprive America and its allies in the region of oil and gas for years.”
