Anduril to invest $1 billion in California for Long Beach campus

SUMMARY

Anduril Industries will invest $1 billion in a new complex in Long Beach, California, aimed at expanding its defense technology operations. The facility will feature offices, labs, and prototype manufacturing space, covering 1.18 million square feet.

Construction is set to start mid-year, with the first building opening by late 2027. The campus is expected to employ about 5,500 workers and support thousands more jobs indirectly.

Co-founder Matt Grimm noted the area's talent pool is "world-class." Despite regulatory challenges, companies like Anduril choose to remain in California for its resources and workforce.

Long Beach is rapidly becoming one of America’s fastest-growing aerospace hubs, earning the nickname “Space Beach,” which Mayor Rex Richardson proudly supports.

The city’s long history of building complex aircraft is now attracting major new players: spacecraft company Rocket Lab, space-station developer Vast, aviation startup JetZero, and defense technology firm Anduril.

Anduril, which develops drones, missiles, robotic submarines, and autonomous fighter jets, employs about 7,000 people across 35 locations worldwide. Roughly half of its workforce is based in Southern California.

In 2025 the company announced a $1 billion investment to construct its first “Arsenal” manufacturing plant — Arsenal-1 — in Columbus, Ohio. The facility will use the same set of commercial manufacturing tools, machinery, and processes for all types of Anduril’s autonomous vehicles and is scheduled to open this year.

“This is another step toward building the next generation of aircraft and technology right here,” said Mayor Richardson.
