FedEx founder Fred Smith has passed away at the age of 80. He transformed global commerce and significantly impacted Memphis. Smith’s idea for FedEx originated during his time at Yale, leading him to incorporate the company in 1971. Smith served in the U.S. Marine Corps, earning two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star, and credited his military experience as vital to his business success.
