Judge finds Virginia Democrats' redistricting resolution illegal

A Virginia judge ruled that a proposed amendment allowing Democrats to redraw congressional maps is illegal. Judge Jack Hurley Jr. stated lawmakers failed to adhere to their own rules for adding the amendment during a special session, and did not meet publishing requirements before the last election. As a result, the amendment is deemed invalid. The campaign Virginians for Fair Elections plans to appeal.

Campaign manager Keren Charles Dongo claims "Republicans court-shopped for a ruling because litigation and misinformation are the only tools they have left." Democrats aim to make gains in Virginia to offset losses in other states due to redistricting battles.
