'nuclear bombs'
American nuclear weapons return to British soil
SUMMARY
The US has reportedly stationed nuclear weapons in Britain for the first time in over 15 years. An American C-17 transport plane recently visited RAF Lakenheath, likely transporting bombs from Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. This mission aligns with previous USAF operations to deliver nuclear weapons.
Analysts noted that the C-17's restricted airspace and flight behavior indicated a "one-way drop-off." The UK is also set to acquire F-35A jets that can deploy nuclear gravity bombs from a US stockpile in Britain.
This development is part of a NATO response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed the capacity for air-launching nuclear weapons has returned.
