Ukrainian troops launch attack in Russia's Kursk border region

Thousands have been evacuated from Russia's Kursk region as Ukrainian troops launched a significant attack.

President Vladimir Putin condemned the operation as a "large-scale provocation," asserting that Ukraine targeted civilian buildings.

The incursion involved hundreds of soldiers and armored vehicles crossing into Russia from Ukraine.

Putin noted at least five civilian deaths and 24 injuries.

Ukrainian officials have not confirmed their involvement, but authorities announced an evacuation of around 6,000 individuals in Ukraine's Sumy region.

Reports indicate that Ukrainian troops were shelling the town of Sudzha, forcing many civilians to seek shelter.

Authorities are on high alert as hostilities continue.
