Tom Homan: 'We can have mass deportations, but do it in a smarter way'
Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed the Trump administration is carrying out mass deportations but is executing them in a smarter and more targeted way.
In an exclusive interview, Homan admitted that “things weren’t perfect” during the large-scale Operation Metro Surge in the Minneapolis area. He said the administration addressed the problems and fixed them after the operation triggered intense bipartisan backlash over the fatal shootings of U.S. citizens Alex Pretti and Renee Good by federal immigration agents.
Homan revealed he has discussed enforcement improvements with Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “I’ve had the discussions with Secretary Markwayne Mullin. He agrees. We can have mass deportations, but do it in a smarter way, which we’re doing,” Homan stated.
The revised strategy focuses on targeted operations against individuals with criminal records. Agents will still arrest anyone encountered during operations who is in the country illegally, even without criminal histories. Homan made clear, “If they’re in the country illegally, they’re not off the table.”
He reported that ICE and CBP have collectively carried out roughly 800,000 deportations since President Trump returned to office. Homan rejected claims the administration is backing down and said “mass operations” will continue, particularly in sanctuary cities that limit cooperation with federal authorities.
“We had a historic illegal immigration crisis for four years,” Homan declared. “So what’s required now? A historic mass deportation.”
