SUMMARY

Russian and Chinese aircraft conducted their first joint patrol over far eastern Russia and the Bering Sea near Alaska. This mission occurred shortly after the U.S. deployed strategic aircraft near Russian airspace. Russia reported the use of nuclear-capable bombers, including Tu-95MS and Xian H-6, and stated the operation complied with international law. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin noted that the patrol wasn't surprising and confirmed the aircraft remained 200 miles from U.S. shores.

The patrol was part of a military cooperation plan for 2024 and was stated by both nations as not aimed at any third countries.
