ICE BODY CAMERAS
ICE officers to wear body cameras during vehicle stops
SUMMARY
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will now require officers to wear body cameras during vehicle stops, according to Trump administration border czar Tom Homan. This decision follows two recent fatal shootings by ICE agents in Texas and Maine, which lacked body-camera footage.
Homan stated, “They exonerate more law enforcement than they convict,” emphasizing the need for transparency. The agency will resume vehicle stops after a temporary suspension for a review.
Despite prior delays due to a government shutdown, funding for the cameras has now been secured. The body-camera program had previously been slowed down by funding cuts. Since January 2025, at least seven people have died during ICE operations.
