Strongest evidence of life yet found on planet beyond solar system
SUMMARY
Scientists using the James Webb Space Telescope found signs of potential life on the exoplanet K2-18 b, located 124 light-years away. They detected dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) in its atmosphere, gases produced by living organisms on Earth.
While this is not direct evidence of life, it suggests biological processes may be occurring on the planet. K2-18 b could support liquid water and is classified as a Hycean world, raising hopes for microbial life.
Nikku Madhusudhan from the University of Cambridge called this a "transformational moment." However, some scientists urge caution, emphasizing the need for thorough data analysis.
