SUMMARY

Weight-loss treatments for pets are being developed to address obesity in animals. Scientists are creating veterinary versions of GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy and Mounjaro, which will be delivered through implants instead of injections.

Early trials with the drug exenatide on cats showed promise, with four out of five cats losing at least five percent of their body mass using an experimental implant.

The study is expanding to include dogs. If successful, these treatments could be available by 2028.

Michael Klotsman from Okava noted that the medication will help pets eat appropriate portions without obsessive behaviors.
