SUMMARY

The CDC has ended its emergency response to the bird flu outbreak, which previously affected dozens of people and drove up egg prices. The agency will merge its updates on bird flu with regular seasonal influenza reports and monitor human cases monthly.

California and Washington have also reduced their responses. Experts warn this may hinder detection of new virus strains. Michael Kinch noted, “We are letting our guard down.”

The CDC's 375 staff assigned to the outbreak will return to regular operations. The current risk to humans remains low, with only one reported death.
