Cities need to boost green investment for safety
SUMMARY
Cities must boost green investments to combat climate change risks, according to European Investment Bank (EIB) President Nadia Calviño. She emphasized that mayors recognize the urgency to protect citizens, stating, “it’s about safety and security at the end of the day."
The EIB, known as the climate bank, allocates 60% of its funds to green initiatives like transport, water infrastructure, and renewable energy. As urban populations rise, adapting to climate challenges becomes critical. Calviño highlighted recent tragedies, such as the floods that killed 16 people in Portugal.
City leaders are focused on essential services like clean water and education. Calviño described them as "really superheroes" in these efforts.
