Major astronomical event is about to take place in our skies

The Geminid meteor shower runs from December 4 to December 20, peaking on the night of December 14-15. Viewers may see "firework-type flashes" of meteors, which can appear in various colors due to trace metals like sodium and calcium. Conditions may be challenging this year because of a full moon.

To maximize viewing, find a dark location away from light pollution, lie down facing northeast toward the Gemini constellation, and wait for meteors to appear. Astrophotographer Dafydd Wyn Morgan suggests preparing during daylight and bringing a friend. These meteors originate from asteroid 3200 Phaethon and are intensifying annually.
