DC police chief resigns due to Trump pressure and crime data manipulation probe

Washington, D.C. police chief Pamela Smith is resigning after two and a half years in the role. She faced significant pressure from the Trump administration and criticism from residents regarding MPD's collaboration with federal agents on immigration. Smith stated, "There comes a time when you just know it's time," expressing gratitude for her tenure.

Mayor Muriel Bowser commended Smith for her leadership amidst challenges. Smith denied accusations of manipulating crime data, stating, "I as the chief of police never, would ever say to anyone to alter stats."
