Sony shuts down nearly its entire memory card business

Sony is suspending all orders for its SD and CFexpress memory card products due to a global semiconductor shortage. This decision affects nearly its entire memory card lineup, including CFexpress Type A, Type B, and all SD cards.

Sony's notice cited the inability to meet demand as a primary reason for this action. The company will reassess the situation before resuming order acceptance but did not provide a timeline.

Currently, some lower-end SD cards remain in production, but stock is limited. The shortage is linked to increased demand from AI data centers, which has driven up component costs.

Sony expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to its customers.
