Spain sees 1.3MILLION applications from undocumented migrants

Spain has received over 1.3 million applications from undocumented migrants, surpassing the expected 500,000. This marks the largest immigrant amnesty in European history. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez considers the amnesty an act of justice aimed at fostering economic growth. Applications opened on April 16, with provisional residency permits granted to more than 360,000 applicants by mid-June.

The initiative contrasts sharply with strict immigration policies across Europe, particularly among conservative governments. Critics warn that the amnesty may lead to increased illegal immigration. The application deadline is approaching, with approvals expected to significantly exceed those from previous programs.
