Pope meets Archbishop of Canterbury

SUMMARY

Pope Leo XIV met with Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally to strengthen ties between Catholics and Anglicans. During their meeting, he emphasized the importance of overcoming divisions to better share Christ with the world.

He recalled the historic meeting between Pope St. Paul VI and Archbishop Michael Ramsey, noting decades of dialogue between the two faiths. The Pope called for efforts to remove obstacles to Gospel proclamation, stressing that “if the world is to take our preaching to heart,” unity is essential.

He concluded by encouraging continued friendship and dialogue guided by the Holy Spirit.
