Apple warns users in 99 countries of spyware attacks, including German lawmakers

Germany’s federal cybersecurity agency warned that members of the Bundestag and other public figures received Apple notifications indicating possible targeting by government-grade spyware.

The BSI advised anyone who gets such an alert to assume their device may be compromised. Apple’s warnings do not name attackers or confirm infections; they said notifications were sent to users in 99 countries.

The source of the recent attacks remains unknown, though governments often acquire surveillance tools from private vendors like NSO Group.
