Palantir, Thales among companies to develop FAA AI tool

SUMMARY

The FAA has chosen Palantir Technologies, Thales, and Air Space Intelligence to develop a new AI tool for air traffic management. This is part of efforts to modernize the outdated air traffic control system, aimed at improving safety and minimizing technology outages. The FAA has already secured $12.5 billion for this project but estimates a need for an additional $20 billion.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy highlighted the potential of the AI tool during a Washington conference, stressing its ability to manage flight schedules and reduce congestion. The technology may also assist air traffic controllers in preventing close encounters between planes.
