Trump says Iranians have 'agreed to everything,' including removal of enriched uranium

SUMMARY

President Trump stated in a phone interview that Iran has “agreed to everything” and will cooperate with the United States to remove its stockpile of enriched uranium.

He insisted the sensitive operation will not involve any U.S. ground troops entering Iranian territory. When directly asked who would physically retrieve the highly enriched nuclear material from inside the country, Trump offered only the vague answer “our people.”

“No. No troops,” he said. “We’ll go down and get it with them, and then we’ll take it. We’ll be getting it together because by that time, we’ll have an agreement and there’s no need for fighting when there’s an agreement. Nice right? That’s better. We would have done it the other way if we had to.”

Trump added that the material would be transported to the United States.

“Our people, together with the Iranians are going to work together to go get it. And then we’ll take it to the United States,” he said.

The president also claimed Iran has agreed to stop backing proxy terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. The two sides are meeting this weekend, and the U.S. will maintain its blockade “until we get it done.”

Trump’s refusal to specify exactly who “our people” are has raised direct questions about undisclosed actors or covert arrangements operating on Iranian soil to secure the uranium.
