Sweden to buy US artillery rocket system

SUMMARY

Sweden will acquire the US High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) to enhance its long-range military capabilities. Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson and Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen signed a Joint Declaration to strengthen cooperation on rocket artillery systems between the two nations.

This procurement supports Sweden's commitment to European security and NATO's collective defense efforts. HIMARS will complement existing systems and improve the defense of northern Europe. The deal, costing around SEK 7 billion, will finance the first deliveries in 2027.

Additionally, Sweden's Saab and Lockheed Martin will explore cooperation on munitions integration for HIMARS.
