Petrochemical plant blast in Hungary leaves one dead

An explosion at a Hungarian petrochemical plant killed one person and injured seven others in Tiszaújváros. The incident occurred during the restart of a production unit after maintenance.

Prime Minister Péter Magyar reported that the damaged pipeline was “currently burning like a torch,” but no hazardous substances above safety limits were detected.

He expressed condolences to the victim's family and wished the injured a swift recovery. MOL stated that experts are investigating the cause of the explosion. Firefighters were dispatched to cool the damaged system, while air quality measurements were taken. Tiszaújváros’ mayor confirmed no public protection measures were necessary despite some nearby buildings sustaining damage.
