Meta employees sue over use of AI in workforce reduction

A group of Meta employees, suing for wrongful layoffs, claims the company used AI to select staff for termination. The 26 plaintiffs say the AI system targeted employees who had taken protected leave, disproportionately affecting those who exercised their rights. They argue that "Meta did not assemble the termination list through the considered judgment of managers who knew the work."

The current and former employees are pursuing individual arbitration due to a mutual arbitration clause and seek reinstate their employment. Meta faces allegations of breaking several laws related to employee rights. A spokesperson for the company stated, "These claims lack merit and are not based on facts."
