King Haakon VIII takes throne in Norway following death of Harald V

King Harald V of Norway has died at 89, leading to the ascension of his son, King Haakon VIII. Harald passed away after a brief hospital stay due to haemolytic anaemia. Haakon, now King, is the cousin of King Charles III. He shares two children with his wife, Mette-Marit, who is facing scrutiny due to her past ties with Jeffrey Epstein.

Mette-Marit previously stated she was misled by Epstein, while her son recently faced legal issues. Mourning has enveloped Norway, with many gathering outside the Royal Palace to pay their respects as grief fills the nation. King Charles expressed his condolences, remembering Harald as "a much-loved kinsman and friend."
