E. Jean Carroll case
US Supreme Court rebuffs Trump's appeal in E. Jean Carroll case
SUMMARY
The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear Donald Trump's appeal to overturn a $5 million verdict in favor of E. Jean Carroll. A jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll and subsequently defaming her.
Trump's appeal argued that the trial was unfair due to evidence of his past sexual misconduct. Carroll first accused Trump of rape in 2019, which he denied, asserting she lied. Trump's Justice Department is investigating her for alleged perjury related to the civil lawsuits.
The case centered on Trump calling Carroll’s claims a “hoax.” The Manhattan jury did not find him guilty of rape but did award damages for abuse and defamation.
