SCOTUS temporarily extends full access to abortion pill

SUMMARY

The Supreme Court has agreed to maintain access to the abortion pill mifepristone while reviewing a case that may affect its availability. Justice Samuel Alito temporarily blocked a lower court ruling that would restrict mail administration of the pill. This extension lasts until Thursday at 5 p.m. The case arises from a decision by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which granted Louisiana's request to void Biden administration rules. These rules allowed the pill to be provided without an in-person meeting, enabling it to be mailed nationwide, even in states with strict abortion laws.
