'Anchor babies' reach nearly 10% of all US births: new data

SUMMARY

In 2023, nearly 10% of US births were to illegal immigrant mothers, totaling around 320,000 anchor babies, according to Pew Research Center. These infants benefit from food stamps, welfare, and education due to the current interpretation of birthright citizenship. The report indicates that 245,000 were born to illegal immigrant parents, while an additional 15,000 had mothers with temporary legal status.

The rise in anchor baby births is the highest since 2010 and has increased for three consecutive years. Experts warn that illegal immigrants exploit US laws for financial gain, with taxpayers covering these costs. The Supreme Court is currently reviewing a significant challenge to President Trump's executive order on birthright citizenship.
