Secret email puts White House fingerprints on Epstein memo: 'someone needs to own this'

SUMMARY

New reporting reveals the White House helped craft a July 2025 DOJ-FBI memo that said an FBI review found no basis to investigate uncharged third parties in the Jeffrey Epstein case.

Emails show Taylor Budowich, then-deputy chief of staff, proposed edits and shared drafts with communications staff and with FBI’s Kash Patel and Deputy AG Todd Blanche. Budowich insisted the memo appear on DOJ/FBI letterhead; Blanche initially refused. The memo leaked July 7.

Records emerged via a FOIA suit. Critics, lawmakers and victims say DOJ releases of 3.5 million pages contradict the memo and point to investigative leads.
