EU set to halt US trade deal over Trump's new tariff threat

The European Union is set to halt the approval of its trade deal with the United States due to President Donald Trump's threat to impose tariffs on countries supporting Greenland. Manfred Weber of the European People’s Party stated that the trade agreement "is no longer possible" under the current circumstances.

The deal aimed to lower tariffs on US industrial goods and some agricultural products. Trump's announcement of a 10% tariff effective February 1 has faced backlash from EU leaders, with Ursula von der Leyen warning that "tariffs would undermine transatlantic relations."

Calls to suspend the deal are growing, with proposals to use the EU's anti-coercion instrument as a potential response to US aggression.
